Commuter advertising specialist ComutaNet, has secured a contract with Nedbank to spread the word amongst the economically active commuter mass market, about its recently launched 2008 Music Challenge. The campaign is run in partnership with the biggest independent record company in Africa, Gallo Records. Organisers are currently scouring the country for South Africa’s next gospel music sensation and chose ComutaNet for its ability to accurately engage with over 20 million of South Africa’s commuters on a daily basis.

The Gospel music challenge generously offers the winning singer a Chana Nenni motor vehicle and a sought-after recording contract from Gallo Music. Nedbank and Gallo are in search of SA’s gospel singing talent and have been working through a series of auditions across the country where entrants are given the opportunity to sing and convince the judges they have what it takes.

ComutaNet’s role in the campaign is to conduct activations in transit nodes throughout the country, distributing informative leaflets to commuters queuing in and passing through the taxi ranks, informing members of the public about the competition. Interested individuals are persuaded to enter the competition and attend auditions. The most recent AMPS research shows that more than 15 million commuters traverse through South Africa’s major taxi ranks on a weekly basis.

In addition to the one-on-one promotions, ComutaNet’s Rank TV documented, edited and provided live coverage of the auditions and announced upcoming auditions. “Rank TV is recognised as the leader in televised advertising to South Africa's economically active taxi commuters, offering Nedbank a reach of an unduplicated daily audience of 2.5 million people,” comments Karen van Wyk ComutaNet’s General Manager: Marketing.

“We will be promoting the Music Challenge until the middle of November and aim to make commuters aware of the fantastic opportunity to win a brand new car and a lucrative recording contract. The beauty of the competition is that anybody between the ages of 16 and 60 can enter,” concludes Van Wyk. The winner of the 2008 Nedbank Music Challenge will be announced on 26 November.
