Cell C mobilised ComutaNet’s branded promoters to distribute pamphlets and to engage with commuters at taxi ranks. The Cell C C3 Mobile Zenzele initiative was advertised in and around Gauteng and Mpumalanga in September and October.

As a leading commuter marketing and advertising company, ComutaNet’s branded promoters were the ideal partners for Cell C’s Zenzele initiative. The campaign, which focuses on empowering people, provided taxi commuters with the opportunity to start their own businesses. Zenzele is a prepaid based solution that empowers ordinary citizens by giving them an opportunity to buy and sell airtime, prepaid electricity and funeral services.

According to Karen van Wyk, ComutaNet’s Marketing Manager, ComutaNet promoters successfully met their objectives set by Cell C. “Clearly defined and explained brand objectives were effectively communicated to commuters,” she adds.

Cell C’s overall Zenzele objectives are to make individuals self sufficient by changing the way that cellular airtime and other prepaid services are sold. Similarly it provides the man on the street with the tools and knowledge needed to develop his own business– one that provides an income, but also has the potential to expand exponentially over time.

”Zenzele is the only product in the market to offer an 8% airtime margin across all networks,” explains Van Wyk. “This unique selling proposition enabled ComutaNet’s promoters to get the message across, luring new Zenzele vendors for Cell C.”

Launched in July 2007, there are already in excess of 1 000 active Zenzele vendors through the business community upliftment project, and success in Zenzele. Prepaid subscribers airtime sales turnover exceeded the R2-million mark in 2008.
