Ster-Kinekor Reaches Agreement with Film Distributor

Ster-Kinekor today announced that it had reached agreement with Nu-Metro Film Distribution over the group"s new affordable pricing strategy. Under the terms of the agreement, Ster-Kinekor Theatres will keep over half of its cinemas as Ster-Kinekor Junction sites selling tickets from R14.00. It will convert 6 existing Ster-Kinekor Junction cinemas to Classic cinemas, making 13 Ster-Kinekor Classic cinemas in total. The agreement means that Ster-Kinekor will now show all movies at all its cinemas as originally intended when the new cinema pricing was launched 7 months ago.

The following 6 cinemas will be upgraded to Classic status on Friday 4 November: The Zone Rosebank, Fourways Mall, East Rand Mall, Kolonnade, Somerset and Longbeach. The Fourways complex is also undergoing a dramatic facelift and is now open for business as a Classic cinema.

"I"d like to thank our customers for the support and understanding they have shown over the last 7 months, as we fought to provide cinema-goers with the best possible deal." said Primedia Content Division CEO, Ferdi Gazendam. The agreement is good news for the more than 1 million Ster-Kinekor Movie Club members who will still receive full club benefits. Half-price Tuesdays for Movie Club members remains in place at Ster-Kinekor Junction and Classic cinemas. Members will continue to earn moviemoola - a 10% credit on all movies, which can be then converted into free tickets at any of the cinemas. Discovery Vitality members will continue to receive their full membership benefits. When the new agreement takes effect in November, Ster-Kinekor will also have completed its roll out of the new self-service terminals in all its cinemas countrywide. The new terminals allow customers to make their own reservations in cinema paying with either their ATM debit cards or credit cards.

"At those sites that currently have the self service terminals, almost 20% of our customers are using them to buy tickets. We expect that figure to rise to 50% in the medium term," says Fiaz Mohamed CEO Ster-Kinekor Theatres. "The terminals allow customers complete control over their movie booking experience. Our customers can now use their ATM cards for payment at these terminals, ensuring that all age groups, including the teenagers, can benefit from this new innovation.
